United Methodist Men The Methodist Men have a monthly fellowship on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30pm in Friendship Place. All men are encouraged and welcome to come! Check the calendar and newsletter for dates and more information.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the second Monday of each month in room 103. They knit and pray over shawls that are given to babies at time of baptism, the elderly in care homes, and others in need. All are welcome to come and knit with the group or knit a shawl at your home and bring it to the church for the ministry to distribute.United Methodist Women The Methodist Women are a very active group here at First Church, with monthly circle groups, fellowship, and an executive meeting each month. All women are encouraged and welcome to attend. Check the monthly calendar and newsletter for dates and times and more information. Currently the Methodist Women are asking for donations of toilet paper for the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center. Please contribute to the collection barrel located in the hallway outside of Agape Garden.
Wonderful Wednesday Food!--Fun!--Fellowship! 5:30 pm Fellowship Hall Please bring a salad dish, or side dish, or a dessert to help complete the meal. Come for the food, fun, and fellowship each week! There's something for everyone!Working Women's Fellowship (WWF) The WWF is a group of women who gather together for fellowship, fun, prayer, book studies, craft nights, and kid friendly fun nights. We always schedule a babysitter for busy women-on-the-go. We are casual and friendly with lots of discussion ranging from our lives, kids, and jobs, to current theology, church practices, and biblical traditions. Currently we meet once a month based on everyone's schedules, so call the church office or contact Anna Borders for a list of scheduled meetings.
Sew-N-Sews This group is very busy making quilts for the homebound and for mission agencies. They meet every Tuesday morning in room 102 from 9am-Noon. You are welcome to come join the fun!
Boy Scout Troop 350 First United Methodist Church holds the charter for Cub Pack 350. The Scouts meet on Monday evening (except school vacations) at 6pm in Fellowship Hall and the scout room. Please use the east parking lot door to enter the building. Call or email the church office if you have a child interested in becoming a part of the Boy Scouts!
Come Experience an Alternative ChristmasSaturday, December 5th, 2009 First United Methodist Church 101 E. 1st 620-662-2386 The purpose of the Alternative Christmas Market is to provide people with the opportunity to give Christmas gifts that will bring the true joy of Christmas to the giver, the recipient, and to those who are in need. Each visitor can:
- Visit information booths to find out more about the various nonprofit agencies that help others in our community.
- Register for door prizes at different booths.
- Decide which agencies you want to support.
- Support your favorite cause(s) with financial contribution by check, cash, or credit card.
- Make your gift in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone who “has everything!”
- Purchase gifts from Ten Thousand Villages.
- Eat a modestly priced lunch made available by the United Methodist Women.
- Bring your children and grandchildren to attend the Alternative Christmas Market to help them learn about giving to the community.
- Contribute even if you cannot be there that day with an “early bird” contribution! (Contact First United Methodist Church to do so.)
- Learn more about the true meaning of Christmas and giving to others!
